The Manitoba Association of Auto Clubs (M.A.A.C) not only represents the many specialty vehicle clubs of Manitoba, but also the individuals that are so much a part of the hobby.

Governments are currently considering ways to implement programs that could have devastating effects on our hobby.

M.A.A.C. recognizes the need to work together with all levels of government to develop policies that are of benefit to all of Manitoba.

The Department of the Environment has issued a proposal to terminate the current exemption from environmental restrictions for leaded gasoline used in competition motor vehicles. If approved, the regulation would require a ban on vehicles using leaded fuel by Jan. 1, 2009 resulting in the likely demise of all international drag racing competition in Canada.

Competition motor vehicles use only 1.5% of all leaded gasoline consumed in Canada. The aviation industry, which owns a permanent exemption from the ban, accounts for the other 98.5%.

 The Concerns

Vehicle Licensing
Current licensing programs do not adequately reflect the usage and needs of Specialty Vehicles

Specialty/Collector Insurance
Existing insurance programs do not accurately account for the driving patterns of Specialty/Collector Vehicles. Also, current classifications of vehicles are incomplete and in some cases incorrect.

Municipal By-Laws
Municipalities currently have the power to adversely restrict how Specialty Vehicles are stored and where owners can work on them.

Emissions Testing
Provincial and Federal Governments continue to consider mandatory emission testing as a licensing requirement for all vehicles.

Clunker Laws
Corporate sponsored crushing programs used to trade off industrial pollution credits will reduce the availability of vehicles and parts for the purpose of restoration.

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC'S) Restrictions
Governments considering the implementation of paints, body shop supplies, and certain high quality waxes being restricted to commercial use sales only.
